Muslims have been urged to seek for marriage counselling so as to check the rising cases of divorce in the society.

Prof. Ibrahim Ahmad Maqary, an Imam at the Abuja National Mosque, made the call at a conference organized by Darut Tazkiya Lil Ulumil Islamiya.

Prof. Maqary, who is the founder of the organization, said Muslims should set up marriage counselling committees in the mosques, where intending couples could be guided to reduce conflicts in the home.

He said Darut Tazkiya has more than 100 Islamic schools in Kano, Kaduna, Zaria, Lagos, Kebbi, Jigawa and other parts of the country where they have over 19 branches.

The Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Nuru Khalid called on Muslims to look for partners of their level when seeking for marriage.

He also urged Muslims to prioritise character above any other credentials.

Other speakers at the event included the deputy director of the FCT Shari’a Court of Appeal, Malam Muhammad Lawal Munir, Amirah of the FCT chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Hajiya Maryam Abdullahi; Hajiya Saudatu Mahdi of Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA); Hajiya Nafisah Yusuf Bichi, Malama Maijiddah Harazumi, and a Jigawa State University lecturer Dr. Habiba Yahaya Alfadari.
