An Islamic cleric, Ustaz Aqib Fajana, has advised Muslims not to keep aloof but actively participate in activities aimed at bringing growth and national development.

Fajana, who is also a lecturer at the Igbinedion University, gave the advice at the opening of the 25th Islamic Training Programme organized by The Muslim Congress (TMC) in Abuja with the theme: “Provisions for the Nation”.

“We believe Muslims must play a vital role in making Nigeria a better place to live. We need to reform ourselves for us to reform the nation. To do this, we need to stand upright against corruption, bigotry and all evil tendencies that ravage Nigeria,” he said.The cleric, however, warned against thrusting power in the hands of individuals with no piety.

“When you leave politicking and governance to some group of people who have no fear of God, then what do you expect? We need to participate, and that’s when you are able to do things better,” he added.

He also advised Nigerians to embrace quality and merit and jettison tribal and religious sentiment for Nigeria to develop.

TMC’s coordinator in Abuja, Ustaz Mutiullah Aremu said the programme was organised to educate Muslims on their role in national development and the need to reform themselves to do that. “We want to see societal reformation through self-reformation,” he said.
