An Islamic cleric, Dr Abdullateef Abdulhakeem has urged Muslims to pay more attention to mosque development as it served as not only a place of worship but also played important role in reforming the society.
Abdulhakeem, who is also the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, said this while delivering a lecture at the installation of the new Baba Adinni, Badagry division, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Babatunde Huthman and four other chiefs installed by the Badagry Central Mosque in Lagos penultimate weekend.
According to him, the mosque should not only be a place of worship and learning but also an institution meant to develop spiritual minds and all-round development of man to reform the society.
He said: “Today, many people build and live in mansions but pay little or no attention to the renovation of mosque which is a place of prayer, a centre of political activities, an educational institution and a focal point of communal life. So, why should people close their eyes to developing mosques?”
Citing the Badagry Central Mosque as one of the mosques that require urgent attention, the commissioner urged Muslims to spend the better part of their God’s given wealth to develop the mosques in their neighborhood.
“Many people strive to secure certificate of occupancy for their residences, many of which are built with millions of Naira but forget that they will not live there forever. The grave is the final abode of every individual,” he added.
He stressed the need for mosque management committees to put in place the necessary arrangements needed to enable the mosque perform its functions effectively without undermining the religious leaders.
“Let the welfare of Imams also be your priority in the mosque as the Imams are the custodians of the mosque. Remember that they welcome you into this world by performing your naming ceremony and they would also perform the funeral service on you when you dieh. Treat them well,” he stated.
The new Baba Adinni of Badagry division thanked Allah and the Muslim community in the town for the honour done to him.
According to Huthman, he has two basic goals to achieve as Baba Adini; to see to the completion of the Badagry Central Mosque and other mosques in the town, and to empower the youths of the community.
