Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has commended security agencies for their intervention in the recent attacks and reprisals in several communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, saying the town would have been overrun without their efforts.

The attacks, which have persisted, have claimed several lives, left many injured and led to the loss of property and cattle.

Mutfwang spoke on Monday during a visit to affected communities in Barkin Ladi and Bassa local government areas, where he also held a town hall meeting with stakeholders.

The governor urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies, stressing that the actions of those he called “few bad eggs or fifth columnists” should not be used to judge the entire security architecture.

He assured the communities that any compromised personnel identified within the security agencies would be exposed and sanctioned, adding that President Bola Tinubu would not tolerate such conduct.

“Most of the security agencies are doing very well, and I know that if the security agencies had not stepped in over what happened in Barkin Ladi, the town would have become history. But the security agencies stepped in and did a great job, and we must appreciate those who do a good job.

“But if there are fifth columnists and bad eggs among them, we will flush them out, and I can assure you that the President and Commander in Chief, Bola Tinubu, will not accept or tolerate any bad eggs among the security forces.

“And once they are shown to us and we get credible evidence, we will take it up with their bosses. So, I wouldn’t want a situation where, because of one bad egg among the security agencies, we strain our relationship with the security agencies.

“So, I am pleading with the communities to continue to support the security agencies that are doing well, and point out those doing otherwise, and by the grace of God, we will take it up at the highest level,” he said.

The governor’s visit came amid rising insecurity in Barkin Ladi and neighbouring communities.

At the weekend, the Berom Youth Moulders Association, led by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, passed a vote of no confidence on the Sector 4 Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, and the Operations Officer, Captain Bello.

The association accused the security outfit’s leadership of persistent failure, negligence and inability to protect lives and property within their area of responsibility.
