Mutfwang’s aide derides ex-gov Tapgun over PDP structure statement

Latep Dabang, the political adviser to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has said the remarks made by a former governor of the state, Fidelis Tapgun, regarding the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, stemmed from the ex-governor’s status as an aggrieved member of the party.

Tapgun, a member of the Board of Trustees of the party in the state, had in an interview with Radio France International blamed the PDP for not adhering to his advice to rectify the internal crisis before the 2023 general elections which, according to him, was the cause of the loss of seats by the party recently at the appeal court, adding that his party wouldn’t survive at the Supreme Court.

But reacting on Wednesday to Tapgun’s remark, Dabang said, “He is only speaking what they have been trying to ensure. When I joined the PDP, there were two contending interests, the pro-Jang and pro-Useni. Tapgun belongs to the pro-Useni.

“Those who are sitting outside who don’t know his line of interest will assume that he is speaking as a fair and an independent person. Certainly not. He belongs to Useni’s camp that challenged the outcome of the congress that led to the repeated congress. So, he is simply serving their interest. There are people who just want to have the control of everything.”

He said the PDP in the state has structures and that all the issues within the party were resolved.

“What Fidelis Tapgun is saying was just to serve the interest of his camp. They just want everything to go their own way. It is just an ego. That is how I see it. The fact he (Tapgun) is a member of trustees does not exonerate him from making this kind of statement in Nigerian politics,” he added.
