Haruna Abdullahi, is a Kaduna-based local entertainer who says his dream is to work in a radio station. The 35-year-old, who recently caught the attention of Arewa Trust Weekly with a plastic keg constructed to imitate a professional video camera, said he has been a local entertainer for over 15 years.

Haruna, who pretends to be recording visuals with his camera said he has gained a lot from his trade and has named his imaginary station, ‘Gidan Radion Bakin Mutum.’ Though he holds a plastic imitation of a video camera, Abdullahi said his station is an independent radio station which aims to entertain and enlighten the society.

“I started as a local dancer and I also used to perform drama. While I was performing drama, a man took interest in me, he took me under his wing and tutored me in the art of drama where I specialised. I was working with him until his death some years ago and then I started on my own,” he said.

Speaking about the business, he said: “It is a good business because, through it, I am able to feed, take care of myself and even help others. My biggest dream, however, is to work in a radio station and I pray that Allah grants this dream to me.

He described his business as risky narrating that he has landed in trouble once or twice but by the grace of God has been able to wiggle out adding that, “My troubles have come to an end since my boss, the Dallatun Jere gave me an identification card, which I use anytime I go for outside jobs. Since he gave me the ID card, anywhere I go, I am safe.”

The entertainer called on the Kaduna State Government to, as a matter of urgency look into the plight of unemployed youths and find ways of engaging them gainfully so that they do not become a menace to society. “It is when youths are idle that they think of dealing in drugs and committing crime,” he said.
