My football club will boost youth, sports development in Nasarawa – Musa Mohammed

In a bid to support Governor Abdullahi Sule’s vision for sports development and job creation, the Nasarawa State Accountant General, Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, fondly called ‘Barade,’ has floated a 3rd Division Football Club called City Rollers FC.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 Nasarawa State Governor’s Cup Football Tournament grand finale held at the Lafia City Stadium on Monday, 16th February, 2026, the Accountant General emphasized that the initiative is aimed at harnessing the energy and potential of the State’s teeming youth population.

“My principal and Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, is committed to developing sports across the State, and I am proud to be a part of this laudable effort.

“I have served in various capacities under different administrations in Nasarawa State, including twice as Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and now as the Accountant General, but I must confess that Governor Sule has distinguished himself as a positively different public office holder as far as sporting activities are concerned.

“By investing in sports, particularly football, we are deliberately creating opportunities for our young people – whether as players, coaches or administrators.

“Today, I am floating a 3rd Division Football Club known as City Rollers FC. This team is based in Nasarawa, my Local Government Area, here in Nasarawa State.

“I was a former player of the team, and have decided to upgrade it to professional status.

“I am doing this to support our youth to enable them to attain their full potential in the sport (football), both within and outside the shores of Nigeria”, he said.

Mohammed added that City Rollers’ participation in the 3rd Division League in Nigeria would provide a platform for local talents to shine, while also promoting sports tourism and economic growth in the State.

“This team is more than just a football club; it is a vehicle for job creation, skills development, and empowerment for our youth.”

He commended the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development headed by Commissioner Kwanta Yakubu, the Salisu Usman Galadima-led State Football Association as well as the Management of Nasarawa United FC for consistently prioritizing the growth and development of sports in the State.

“Let me applaud the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for the wonderful job they are doing to help develop sports in the State.

“I equally commend the State Football Association as well as the Management of Nasarawa United FC led by Mr. Solomon Babanjah, for being a shining light for the discovery, development and promotion of our sports and stakeholders.

“Importantly, too, let me sincerely appreciate you, Mr. Eche Amos, for what you have been doing in the State, region and country at large, to promote sporting activities.

“These are sacrifices that should not be left unrewarded”, the AG concluded.
