My husband wants to kill me with sex, dissolve our marriage now, woman tells court

An Agege customary court, Lagos, yesterday listened to the plea of a 32-year-old housewife, Mrs Adenike Bolarinwa, that it should end the eight-year-old marriage to her husband, Mr Abiola Bolarinwa, over sexual harassment and constant battery she alleged he was always subjecting her to.

 Adenike, a business woman and an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, in her divorce petition told the court that her husband was always molesting her at will and, consequently, she no longer loved him.

 The petitioner, a mother of two who resides at Obawole, in the Oke-Ira area of Lagos, declared, “My husband constantly beats me and no longer cares for me and our children,” adding he was always harassing and blackmailing her while demanding sex, and was always calling her unprintable names in the presence of their children.

 “My husband often makes uncomplimentary utterances at me while forcefully having sexual intercourse with me. He calls me a harlot while having sex with me,” she said.

 Adenike also accused Bolarinwa, 38, of threatening her life, saying he was always making a punching bag of her whenever they quarrelled. 

 “I had to run away from the house when the torture became unbearable. There was a time my husband beat me severely and l was in a coma for three days and had to be placed on admission in the hospital for weeks.   I had to move out of our matrimonial home to my family house to remain alive,” she said.

 The petitioner, who described her husband as an “irresponsible and violent man”, pleaded with the court to separate them, saying, “He doesn’t know his responsibility in feeding and clothing his family. I am no longer interested in the union.”

 She prayed the court to give her custody of their children and to award her other consequential orders it may deem fit.

  Bolarinwa, a surveyor, however, denied the allegations against him, saying Adenike was wayward and arrogant. “My wife is stubborn, rude and has no form of respect for me as her husband,” he alleged.

 He, however, told the court that he still loved the petitioner and did not want the marriage dissolved. “I urge the court not to grant my wife’s request for the dissolution of the marriage. I still love her and promise to resolve whatever issues we are facing in the union,” he pleaded.

 The court president, Mrs Ibironke Elabor, who advised the estranged couple to keep the peace, adjourned the suit till March 1, 2018 to enable the couple seek an alternative dispute resolution.
