A young lady who got pregnant at a tender age, Zainab Mayowa, yesterday lamented how her mother in-law chased her out of her son’s house “for no reason”.
Zainab, who petitioned a Grade C customary court sitting at Oja-Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said her mother-in-law was wicked.
According to Zainab, her mother-in-law’s intention was to take the only baby in the marriage away from her and send her back to her parent’s home.
“My mother-in-law hates me. With all I have done to satisfy her, she still hates me. At a point, she collected my baby from me and chased me out of the house because I am a young lady.
“It was when she put too much pressure on me that I began to reply her curses on me. She had even told her son she would disown him if he continues with me. It is true that I left home to source for food for myself and my baby when my husband didn’t have money to give us. His mother is our problem. I cannot continue with him if his mother is still the factor in our marriage,” she said.
Corroborating her claims, Zainab’s father said his daughter was impregnated by Adebisi Mayowa when he was no longer unable to sponsor Zainab in school.
He said, “She got impregnated when I had an accident and could not take her to school again. I never knew she was having an affair with this man. They are both very young to be parents. His mother is the problem of the marriage.”
Zainab’s 23-year-old husband, Adebisi, accepted her allegations, saying, “All hers claims are true but my wife used to be very rude to my mother. I have left my mother’s house to have a peace of mind.”
The president of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, ordered Adebisi to be paying Zainab N2,000 monthly for the feeding of the only child in the marriage and provide allowances for her health, education and general welfare.
