My mother-in-law sleeps with her friend in our house, divorce-seeking wife tells court

The president of a grace C customary court sitting in Oja-Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Elder Henry Agbaje, has adjourned a divorce matter between Ibrahim Abass and his wife, Olaitan, till March 13, 2019 for further hearing.

The petitioner, Olaitan, had told the court that Abass, whom she said she met on facebook, was “irresponsible and wicked.”

The court also heard from the petitioner that her husband and his mother induced the termination of her second pregnancy, despite her interest in having a second child for him.

Olaitan further alleged that her mother-in-law was usually bringing her politician friend into their matrimonial home for lovemaking.

“Since my husband and I got married, my mother-in-law has been the one cooking for us. My mother-in-law is a drunkard. Whenever I was going out, she would not allow me to take my child along. I am fed up of her son,” she said.

Abass accepted the divorce claims but denied the allegations Olaitan levelled against him. He said his wife had abandoned home since February last year without telling him of her whereabouts.

He said that when he discovered that his wife had absconded, he reported the case at Kuola police station in Ibadan.

He further told the court that even before Olaitan left home last year, she had been denying him of sex, which he said was responsible for the challenges in their marriage.

Elder Agbaje ordered the plaintiff and the defendant to come along with their parents on the next adjournment date.
