The prayers seemed to have been answered as he started the two games Nigeria has played so far and opened the scoring in the 3rd minute against Sudan on Saturday.
Nigeria reached the Round of 16 after his goals and that of Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon condemned the Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane to a 3-1 defeat at the Stade Roumde Adija in Garoua.
During a short interview after the team’s training session yesterday, the Villarreal of Spain striker said “It’s a mum’s prayer and I can say it is working for me. I believe in my mum and anything she says from her mouth is true. So the prayers are working for me,” he said.
He further noted that he was not missing his club as he is focused solely on doing well with the Super Eagles to see that the team achieves its set targets.
“I am not missing my club at the moment as I am here to represent my country and see that we do well and make Nigerians proud,” he said.
