My plans for NBC – Kawu

The newly appointed Director General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mal. Ish’aq Modibbo Kawu, has promised to sanitise the commission to ensure that it remains non- partisan.
Kawu, who noted that the commission got “sucked in 2015 politics, thereby undermining its statutory mandate”, said the commission’s relationship with members of the political class in the days gone by deprived it of its main responsibility of institutionalizing and regulating the broadcast industry.
Speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday, he said the agency under him would follow laid down procedures in regulating activities in line with the national broadcasting code.
Kawu said the standard of the NBC in the past was very high, adding that professional broadcasters should be happy that one of them has been appointed to lead the commission. The NBC boss, who worked with the old Radio Nigeria, urged his colleagues in the media industry to cooperate with him so that they can make broadcasting in Nigeria the best on the African continent.
“The tradition used to be very high. The standard was impeccable. When I went to work in broadcasting, we met an incredible institution and I think we can still go back there. My duty is to lead the process that would bring development”, he said.
On digitization of the broadcast industry, Kawu said the process remained seamless, adding that his administration would remove all barriers to drive it.
