OJB Jezereel: It was obviously life changing and I saw life completely in a different light, the kidney issue is something that you battle with even after the surgery and Indians seem to have a reasonable grasp of handling it.
How helpful was the social media in raising awareness and funds for your treatment?
It was a 50-50 thing because a lot of people on social media made it look like a scam or some comedy show but the reasonable ones came through for me and I am grateful for that.
In a society, where people believe entertainers are wealthy and glamorous, did you see your plea on social media for funds as an embarrassment to your personality?
Well money is a visitor and visitors come and go no matter how long they stay, so above all I wasn’t embarrassed because it had to do with my life. In fact I feel elated that people responded to me both positively andnegatively. If I had not taken to social media who would have heard my plea and known what was happening to me. So it wasn’t an embarrassment at all.
If you had a chance to do something for someone based on your experience what would it be?
Aside giving money, advice and good counseling is what I would give. I think that is one important aspect people forget to do when people are in such a situation. Good counseling and a listening ear in some cases supersedes money.
Your soon to be released book,‘The Celebrated Beggar,’ tell us something about it?
‘The Celebrated Beggar’ will be centred on my life as a producer, musician, and the travails of my kidney ailment. I want to talk about how we can go off the spotlight in just a single moment and a whole lot of things. I am still working on it and will let you know when it will be released.
From your experience, what advice would you give artists regarding their health?
These days people are earning more than back in those days, so they should take advantage of health insurance and save more for the rainy day,you never can tell what will happen in future. Though, no one prays for a negative future.
Now that you are back on your feet again, should your fans expect more from you?
Most definitely, I am going nowhere. My presence will be seen more and a whole lot of brand new songs are lined up, so keep your fingers crossed.
Having a second chance at life, do you think the glamour and glitz of being an entertainer is worthwhile?
It is worth everything, because it also played a big part in fund raising for my treatment. If I wasn’t an entertainer probably no one would have taken note of my plea.
What favorite musical project do you look forward to working on?
My album and working with P-square, D’banj and Tuface.
