The former speaker of the state House of Assembly defeated former Super Eagles assistant coach, Chief Godwin Koko Uwua and former Sole Administrator of Lobi Stars FC, Mr. Wanongo Ugbema to clinch the position.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, the football enthusiast said she would engender football activities at the local government levels to ensure that the youths are positively engaged.

The FA chairman noted that most times even youths who are immensely talented get involved in some of the social vices simply because they have nothing to keep them busy.

“I will make sure that each local government in the state has a formidable football club. This used to be the practice and I wonder why it is no longer so. Once the youths are kept busy, they will not have time to think of some of the social vices that they commit when left to roam the streets.

“Local governments don’t produce clubs again. We have to change this trend because it is not good for football development anywhere”, she reiterated.

In addition, Icheen pledged to use her connections as a leading politician in the country to attract sponsors for the association’s programmes.

The frontline supporter of defunct Sir Akpoo System FC expressed readiness to revitalize the State FA by ensuring that corporate bodies doing business in the state lend a helping hand.

“ I will use my contacts to attract sponsors for the FA. I am not new to football and I know what is required to bring back the lost glory of Benue State in the game”, she assured.
