An aged landlord, Olaseni Ogunlolu, has dragged his tenant, Adebola Alfa Sheu, before a customary court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, seeking an order to mandate him to vacate his residence.
Ogunlolu, a clergyman who resides at No 17, Oke Lantoro, Abeokuta, alleged that Sheu, an Islamic cleric, specialised in spiritual consultation for shady clients that include cultists and internet fraudsters, popularly called yahoo boys.
He told the court yesterday that the respondent’s co-tenants had complained to him about how Sheu often burnt all sorts of sacrifice in the house and how that was making them uncomfortable.
Ogunlolu, a retired police officer, said having realized the “criminal tendencies” of the tenant, he rejected the renewal of his rent and asked him to vacate the single-room apartment.
He said he had served Sheu a quit notice, but the respondent failed to vacate the apartment, hence, the petition he filed before the court.
“I am a retired police officer and so must not be seen as aiding and abetting crime. Some of his clients are yahoo boys and cultists. He failed to vacate the apartment. Last week, he came to pack his loads. But while he packed some, he left others behind and padlocked the apartment,” the landlord said as he begged the court to order the tenant to vacate the apartment “in the interest of peace.”
The respondent was absent in court.
The president of court, Mrs Olorunwo Sam-Obaleye, ordered that another hearing notice be served on the defendant and adjourned the case till December 11, 2018 for judgement.
