A divorce-seeking man, Gafaru Omoleke, Tuesday, told a customary court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that his wife, Nafisat, accused him of stealing the placenta of their last child, hence, he has decided to divorce her.

Omoleke insisted he would end his marriage to Nafisat, who he said appeared on a popular radio station in Ibadan to destroy his  “hard-earned family name” over the missing placenta issue.

He said he was not in town when his wife put to bed about five years ago and was unaware of a claim by her that she had given the placenta of the new baby to a friend of his to hand over to him.

The father of three explained that the boy had since birth not been able to talk, crawl, walk or even eat on his own without support, saying that was why Nafisat alleged he had stolen the placenta.

He further told the court that he suggested to his wife that the boy should be treated with local herb to cure the sickness but his wife declined that the boy should be taken to hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Responding, Nafisat, who said she had no intention of leaving her husband, admitted she went to a radio station but only to seek help for the ailing child and not because of the missing placenta.

On the missing placenta, she said, “He was not in town when I had my last child.

“When I told him that I have put to bed, he asked one of his friends to come over to take the placenta from me.

“I obliged because I knew him as my husband’s friend.

“The boy is now five years old but he cannot talk.

“He can’t walk and he cannot feed himself.

“He has not been responsible for the upkeep of my children and I have accepted my fate.

“I am still in the apartment he rented for me with my children.

“He has another wife already,” she said.

The president of the court, Chief Odunade Ademola, advised the couple to treat the ailing child well before they continue with the divorce matter.
