A quantity surveyor, Aderibigbe Adedolapo, will on Monday 24, 2018 know his fate at the Oja-Oba customary court, Mapo, Ibadan, on the case instituted by his wife, Mayowa, on their eight-year-old marriage.
Mayowa had approached the court seeking divorce from Adedolapo, alleging battery and lack of care for the family on his part.
The petitioner, who lives in Apete, Ibadan, told the court that her husband had the habit of monitoring her phone conversations with her friends and customers, which she said was unacceptable to her.
She said Adedolapo once threatened to kill her with a broken bottle.
Mayowa also cited a recent case she said her husband beat her, stripped her naked, bit her and drove her out of the bathroom, causing her embarrassment in the neighbourhood.
Adedolapo admitted the couple was always engaging in fights as his wife was “a troublesome woman who believes she could beat anybody, regardless of such person’s gender.”
He said the most annoying thing about his wife was her claim that the three children in the marriage belonged to another man, despite his efforts to care for them.
Adedolapo noted that his wife usually travelled out of Ibadan city without his knowledge, and even once absconded from the home.
“I know my wife has concubines. I have her voice recorded on phone where she was fixing an appointment with another man in Mokola, whereas she had told me she was going to Bodija market. I know she had affairs with the chairman of okada (commercial motorcycle) riders in our area,” he said.
During cross examination, Mayowa denied having extramarital affairs. She said since her husband was always doubting the biological father of the three children in the marriage, she was always ready to provide another father for them.
The president of the court, Chief Odunade Ademola, directed Mayowa to produce the three children in the court on the next adjournment date, December 24, 2018.
