A former international, Garba Lawal, has said he isn’t so much worried about who becomes the next Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles as he is about Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup ticket for Nigeria.
Following the Super Eagles lackadaisical showing in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, there have been deafening calls for the sack of the handler of the team, Gernot Rohr.
Although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to come out with an official statement, sources in the glasshouse have said the Franco-German tactician will soon be shown the exit door.
While Nigerians await official announcement of the sack of the football tactician, some coaches are already being linked with the plum job.
Interestingly, some football fans have recommended Emmanuel Amunike and Salisu Yusuf as a good combination for the Super Eagles.
However, the former Roda JC of Holland star who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday said he does not care about who becomes the next coach of the Super Eagles.
He said people were entitled to their opinions but the final decision lies with the football federation.
“I have heard so many recommendations but I am not bothered about who is the next Super Eagles coach. My major concern at the moment is for us to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
“Even if NFF hires Jose Mourinho but we fail to qualify for the World Cup, that won’t make any sense to me. If an unknown coach delivers the ticket, that is what will interest me.
“I believe the NFF will make the right decision at the right time. So if it is Amunike or anyone else, it is for the federation to decide. All that I want is for Super Eagles to be at Qatar 2022,” said the member of NFF Technical Department.
On December 18, the Super Eagles will know their opponents in the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
