The North Central elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by former Senate President Ameh Ebute, have expressed support for the party’s national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

This endorsement comes as some party chieftains from the North Central region call for Ganduje’s resignation or removal during the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Caucus meetings scheduled for September 11 and 12.

Critics argue that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State from the North West, should not have become the party’s chairman after his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor from the North Central, was ousted.

However, the North Central APC Elders’ Forum, in a statement signed by Ebute, affirmed their opposition to Ganduje’s removal.

The support for Ganduje follows a recent visit by the Chairman of the North Central APC Governors’ Forum, Abdullahi Sule, who cautioned party members against undermining Ganduje’s leadership ahead of the Ondo and Edo governorship elections.

The forum praised Governor Sule for his efforts to restore peace within the APC in the North Central zone and for positioning the party for improved performance. They also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ganduje for addressing the political crisis within the Benue APC.

The elders’ forum urged Ganduje to ensure that the North Central zone is represented in the upcoming leadership of the Progressives Institute, which the party is set to unveil soon.
