Governors from the six states in the North Central region of the country, on Thursday, commenced a conference on human capital development to tackle the persistence of poverty and other socioeconomic problems affecting residents of the region.

Daily Trust reports that the Nigerian Human Capital Development programme was inaugurated by the federal government in 2018 to spur sustainable growth of the nation’s economy and enhance life expectancy of its citizens.

While declaring the two-day conference open in Lafia, the state capital, the host governor, Abdullahi Sule, explained that the conference would create a window of opportunities for the governors of the region to brainstorm on how to address issues of unemployment and other challenges confronting residents of their respective states.

While appreciating the state’s Human Capital Development office for working tirelessly since its inauguration to alleviate the sufferings of the masses across the state, Sule, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, promised that the state government would remain committed in the fight against poverty until it is completely eradicated.

Speaking at the event, the North Central regional consultant on Human Capital Development, Dr. Victoria Daaor, narrated that the conference would be participatory to enable all participants contribute to the discussion with the aim of proffering lasting solutions to the numerous problems bedeviling residents of the region.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Human Capital Development, Mrs. Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman, thanked the North Central governors and other critical stakeholders from the region for being present at the occasion despite their tight schedules.
