The North East Development Commission (NEDC) says the level of damage in the zone needs extensive reconstruction to revive socio-economic activities.
NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, said this in Abuja yesterday during a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

He said to accelerate its work in the region, the commission fast-tracked the MoU to fulfil the Executive Order 5 that urges government agencies to prioritize patronage of local contents when engaging in procurement.
“We’ve concluded our master plan which covers a lot of activities and we have 530 projects in the master plan and all of them need the input of engineers and this is where we need more of the engagement,” Alkali said.
President, NSE, Tasiu Sa’ad Wudil, said the body wanted the NEDC to achieve the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the North-East.
