Foreign Affairs Minister of North Korea, Mr. RI Myong San, made this known during the opening of the meeting of the 4th Nigeria, North Korea joint commission in Abuja yesterday.
He noted progress made in Nigeria in ensuring national reconciliation, unity, social integrity and economic development.
“We wish Nigeria becomes a permanent member state of the UNSC and play greater role in representing and protecting the interests of African people in the international arena and in consolidating the African Union as well resolving the regional issues,” San said.
He also disclosed that the two countries will review the implementation progress of agreed articles of the 3rd session and discuss cooperation in several sectors and sign the agreements.
San however added that the agreed articles were not implemented due to several factors and unavoidable reasons of both parties adding that those of them who manage the joint commission are partly responsible for it.
“We exchanged the drafts of proposals for technical cooperation, agreements for sectional cooperation and contracts. However, the documents were not properly written and review was delayed but we will sign the agreements for cooperation in several sectors between the governments and relevant authorities,” he said.
Also speaking is Nigeria Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Aminu Wali, who reminded the meeting of both sides commitment to pursue the implementation of decisions reached at the end of the 3rd session with a view to enhancing and promoting the quality and efficiency of political, socio-economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
“… it is imperative that we work together as good friends to maximize our areas of cooperation particularly by promoting trade and investment flow between our two countries. We should not allow the excuses of distance to serve as an impediment to our friendship and collaboration in trade area,” Wali said.
