N109bn fraud: Court revokes ex-AGF co-accused’s bail

An FCT High Court has revoked the bail of the co-accused of the former Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris in the trial on the alleged diversion of N109 billion.

Justice Yusuf Halilu, in a ruling on Tuesday, revoked the bail of Geoffrey Olusegun Akindele following his non-appearance in court for the continuation of the trial.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in 2022 arraigned Idris, Akindele, Mohammed Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited on 13-count charges bordering on alleged misappropriation of the sum of N109 billion.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to Akindele, S. E. Adino pleaded with the judge that his client was on his way to the court having always attended previous sittings, but the judge overruled his application.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Leke Atolagbe had informed the judge that counsel to Idris, Chris Uche (SAN) had written to him about his absence from the proceeding.

The case was adjourned to February 1, 2024.
