A Katsina High Court has sentenced one Sule Yusuf Saulawa, former permanent secretary, office of the Deputy Governor of the state to a  7-year jail term without an option of fine.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC led by its counsel Barrister Saad Hanafi had dragged the accused following a complained lodged by one Musa Baba, the Chairman of Many Agro-Allied and Chemical Company Nigeria Ltd.

Saulawa had falsely obtained from the complainant the sum of N2.5m to facilitate a contract for the supply of fertiliser to all the local government of the states as soon as the complainant bids for the contract.

Failure of which the complainant approached the EFCC thereafter charged the accused under section 1(1)(a) of the advance fee fraud and other fraud related offences act 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same act.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Sanusi Tukur said admission of offence by the accused and  the prosecutors ability to prove the case are taking into cognisance noting that there is no better evidence than for an accused to owned up to a crime.

As such, the accused being a first-time offender is hereby sentenced to a minimum of seven years without an option of fine as stipulated punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences.

He said the judgement can be appealed if the accused wishes.
