A 156 episode Hausa radio drama on anti-corruption estimated to have gulped N30 million is scheduled to hit radio stations across eight states in the northern part of Nigeria this February.
According to the Executive Producer of the mega radio program who is also the Chairman Board of Trustee of Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) Alhaji Abdulkareem Mohammed, the tittle of the project ‘Shugabanci’ which means ‘Leadership’ is aim at assisting the current anti-corruption crusade with funding from MacArthur foundation.
“The issue of corruption has been a major social and economic set back that this country has been battling with. After we have written our proposal, we were able to get a grant from MacArthur foundation to develop and run a 156 episode of a Hausa radio drama which will be aired across six norther states of the country.
"We however, hope that at the end of this program which will start by February 2018 and end in February 2020, the radio drama which is virtually first of its kind will be able to educate the general public on the demerit of corruption,” said the producer.
It was also gathered that the radio drama is being recorded with state of the art equipment while recordings are being done using entertainment as a vehicle to educate the audience.
The radio drama, unlike other radio dramas, is being done on location instead of inside the studios.
The director of the drama, Malam Nasiru B. Muhammed, stated that the casts were being selected after an open audition and 22 artists were selected out of 88 people who responded to the audition advertisement.
He added that, the drama will indeed make a land mark in the history of radio drama in the next three years.
Similarly, it was gathered that the 13 episode that makes season one of the drama is on the verge of completion and that the selected radio stations to air the program will begin airing in the first week of February.
