The federal government on Thursday flagged off the Greater Dutse Water Supply Project worth N59.4 billion at Siltilmawa Village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The project when completed, will provide adequate and clean water to residents of Dutse, the state capital.
The project, which was conceived 24 years ago, is now being taken up by the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has funded it to provide basic necessities to the people of Jigawa State.
Speaking at the project site, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utseve, said the project will be completed within 24 months and will provide 10 million litres of water to residents of the area.

He said the project, which will be executed by Jidadu Ventures Limited, includes the construction of a 10,000-meter-based concrete reservoir and housing quarters.
Also, the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has commended the high level of commitment of the federal government in fulfilling the promise made by President Tinubu during his campaign visit to the late Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammadu Sanusi, in 2023.
He added that the project is expected to bring significant development to the state and put an end to the perennial water scarcity that had befallen residents of Dutse and its environs.
In his speech, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, disclosed that the emirate has pledged to assist in making sure the project is completed as scheduled.
