Na’Abba announced his resignation from the PDP through a letter to his ward chairman on Sunday which was copied to other top party officials.
Speaking to our reporter on telephone yesterday, the APC national secretary, Mai Mala Buni, confirmed that the former speaker has indicated interest to join the party and will be received by the party officials as it’s new member.
He said that he will be formally received at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
“Yes we will receive him as a member of the party after his defection from the PDP. The party will welcome anybody who means well for the country. Nigerians, especially those with the country at heart know that the APC wants to take this country to a better position,” he said.
He also commended the former speaker for taking the decision to join the progressives in order to salvage the nation from the reign of the PDP which has brought the country to its knees and damaged it’s reputation.
Na’Abba was the speaker of the House of Representatives during Obasanjo’s first tenure, between 1999 to 2003.
Stating his reason for leaving the PDP in the letter, he said the party has lost its soul adding that the views of the country’s patriotic leaders and other respected people are not respected.
He also accused the Jonathan administration of using religious and sectional differences to divide the people, saying that the country has never been so divided like it is presently.
The former speaker had, immediately after his resignation, hinted that he may join another party before or after the 2015 elections.
