The police in Kano State said they arrested 16 persons in connection with the rising cases of thuggery in the Sharada-Jaen area and Dala Quarters.

A statement signed by the police public relations officer in the state, SP Haruna Kiyawa, noted that two of the suspects were behind the killing of a vigilante commander at Sharada-Ja’in Quarters, Muktar Garba, adding that the command is hunting for other suspects.

The statement added that lately, there were reports of a resurgence of thuggery activities around Sharada-Ja’in and Dala areas, which prompted the police to review its anti-crime strategies to address the situation.

SP Kiyawa added that Muktar was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he died while receiving treatment.

The statement further noted that one 18-year-old Bukari Tijjani was reported to have died during the Daba clash at Dala Quarters after he was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

“The police embarked on coordinated intelligence-led raids around the area, which led to the arrest of Adamu Ado, 20, popularly called Ramos, of Dan Dinshe Quarters; Ibrahim Ahmad, 22, popularly known as Abban Layya, of Dala Quarters, and Abubakar Abdullahi, 20, popularly known as Tulu, a wanted thug. A weapon was recovered from him,” the statement added.

Kiyawa noted that additional 11 suspects identified as members of different thuggery-related gangs were also arrested and weapons and illicit drugs recovered
