The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious armed robber and cultist who had been terrorising members of Ibagwa Nike community of Enugu East Local Government Area.
The suspect, Sopuruchukwu Anike, 24, claims to be from Ibagwa Nike community.
The command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu.
Amaraizu said that a single barrel gun which the suspect and his cohorts used in unleashing mayhem on their victims was recovered during the operation
He said the suspect was arrested by operatives attached to the Anti Cultism Unit of the command on April 9.
Amaraizu said the suspect and his cohorts usually robbed their victims at gun point and dispossessed them of their telephones, money and other valuables.
He said the suspect also confessed to be a member of the Aye confraternity.
The police spokesman said that the suspect said he bought the gun from one of his cohorts, Ikenna, who is currently in prison custody.
He said the suspect joined the cult in 2016 and thereafter dropped out from school in Senior Secondary one.
Amaraizu said that a full scale investigation had commenced into the incident. (NAN)
