Over 10,000 patients of various illnesses are to receive free drugs in Kano state under the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) programme.
Dr. Uduak Essen, prevention focal person of NACA’s HIV/AIDS programme, stated this at the flagging off of the four-day NACA free treatment exercise in Tarauni local government area, Kano.
She said the programme was organized in commemoration with World HIV/AIDS Day.
Dr. Essen said 5,000 people would be treated and receive drugs free of charge in Nassarawa and Tarauni local government areas each in the state.
She said the programme was ongoing in 30 states of the federation, saying “people would be tested for hypertension, blood pressure, malaria, typhoid and HIV/AIDS during the exercise.”
Dr. Essen therefore called on the people in the two local government areas to come out massively as the programme was meant to help them.
Chairman of Tarauni local government, Alhaji Mukhtar Umar, who was represented by the speaker of the local government, Barrister Nasiru Shu’aibu, called on other agencies to emulate NACA by organizing a similar programme.
Umar assured that the council is ready to partner with any agency or NGO in any programme aimed at imporving the lives of the people of the state. Umar assured that the council is ready to partner with any agency or NGO in any programme aimed at imporving the lives of the people of the state.
