The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has called for the remover of legal and human rights barriers to HIV and AIDS Response in Nigeria for improved access to services and reduction of stigma and discrimination against the vulnerable.

The Director-General (NACA), Dr Sani Aliyu at a national advocacy forum said, the goal of the 2017-2022 development plan to remove the legal barriers was to strengthen the legal and policy environment to reduce the impact of HIV on key and vulnerable population.

He said stigma and discrimination remain the major issues around HIV/AIDS adding that HIV is a virus and people should be able to speak about it as they do with other diseases.

The House of Representatives committee chairman on AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, David Ombugadu said the act is already in the public domain and has been passed since 2014 and they are calling on civil societies to popularise the act.
