Over 90 federal, states and private-owned colleges of education are expected to participate in the games slated for October 2011.

Addressing the press, the provost of the institution, Dr. Nkasiobi Oguzor, further disclosed that since the establishment of the institution, it has never hosted any sporting event of such magnitude.

According to Oguzor, about 92 colleges of education across the country will send their athletes and officials for the game, saying the huge attendance that the game will witness will pose a serious challenge to the institution.

He called on Rivers State government, corporate bodies and other sports-loving individuals to come to the rescue of the institution by helping it in the areas of provision of facilities and logistics necessary to ensure a successful event.

“What is upper most is to ensure that the game is successful. It is a window of opportunity for private sector organizations to support sports from the grassroots. The school needs N500 million for facilities and infrastructure and another N500 million for the games proper.

Grassroots Sports gathered that there are still a lot to be done if the ambition of the institution to host a successful NACEGA is to be realized as he said the four volleyball courts, one lawn tennis court and one football pitch are a far cry from facilities required to host any higher institution games.

The preliminary team events for the emergence of qualifiers for the game proper will commence soon and athletes will vie for honours in 12 sports in the game, which is likely going to take place in the last quarter of next year.
