The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has threatened to arrest anybody found selling agrochemicals in retail quantity.
It said the practice aids food poisoning as perpetrators use the chemicals in preserving food.
The Kebbi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Muyideen Suleman, gave the warning over the weekend at the close of a stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi.
He said fish and meat sellers use the substance in preserving their stock.
“NAFDAC will arrest and prosecute any person found selling agrochemicals in mills.
“Those that sell in retail quantity contribute to food contamination. Fish and meat sellers use these chemicals in preserving their commodities.
“These chemicals are not meant for human consumption therefore, no matter how little was taken, it is injurious to health.
“These chemicals are manufactured for agricultural purposes and their usage must be restricted for such.”
