The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clamped down on sellers of fake, harmful, and expired products in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The exercise led to the raid on a warehouse in Apata area of Jos North LGA where two persons were arrested over alleged falsification of beverages’ expiration dates in order to mislead members of the public.

According to the Agency, the two suspects are Emma Nwobi and Yusuf Hassan.

Speaking at the scene of the operation, the North Central Zone Director of NAFDAC, Kenneth Azikiwe, said some consumers had reported purchasing fake products that were risky to their health.

He said the Agency would leave no stone unturned in dealing with perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.

“We have two suspects in custody: Yusuf, who applied the altered dates, and the facility owner, who provided the labels. We have encountered similar prevailing cases before,” he said.

One of the arrested suspects, Yusuf, pleaded for leniency, saying he didn’t know that the expiry date had been altered.
