The minister stated this at the NAFEST 2011 press briefing held in Abuja.

He said between the close of the last NAFEST and today, various actions have been taken to ensure the success of this year’s edition which is the 25th and the first in the second half of our centenary as a nation.

He said that the ministry is re-engineering the festival content to make it better serve the purpose of job creation, economic empowerment, arresting youth restiveness and other vices.

“In consonance with these stated aims, various events are on offer as part of NAFEST 2011. They are in two broad categories. They are competitive events which include traditional music in stage presentations and video documentations format, drama, traditional furnished apartments.

“The others are the non-competitive events which include the book fair, the cultural market and the festival colloquium.”

He urged the media to sensitise the people on the objectives of the festival, which according to him, is an avenue for talent hunt and display of creativity, exchange of ideas, skills and indigenous technologies.

He commended the organiser of the event, the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) for all the preparations done so far towards making the festival a unique one.

Earlier in his address,  NCAC  Executive Director Mwaligwu  Madugu  assured that  adequate  logistics and security have been provided to ensure a hitch free carnival which will commence on the  22nd of November in Calabar, Cross River State.
