NAFEST 2014, a sober reflection on 100 years existence –Duke

Duke stated this at a press briefing ahead of NAFEST 2014 coming up between the 19th and 26th October in  Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
According to him, the theme of NAFEST 2014 “celebrating Nigeria@100: The Role of Culture as Vehicle for National Unity” will be used to further cement the country through cultural interaction involving the 36 states of the federation.
“Towards actualizing the theme of the festival, various events are on offer as part of NAFEST 2014. These include traditional dance drama, traditional furnished apartment, children`s story telling, essay writing and painting competition  while other events include Arts and Crafts exhibition and traditional wrestling, the book fair, the cultural market and the colloquium component.”
Duke noted that the cultural sector has abundant resources that can turn around the nation`s economy into a productive one for youth empowerment and job creation.
He said that the cultural market segment of NAFEST is designed to showcase cultural products and services, ranging from consumer to utilitarian products, saying it is a way of encouraging Nigerians to be creative and resourceful in our quest for development.
“Similarly, the Traditional Furnished Apartment will examine indigenous resources involved in interior decorations and encourage our people to look inwards for affordable household and furnishing materials, as well as create huge employment opportunities.
Earlier, National Council for Art and Culture Director General (NCAC) Mrs. Dayo Keshi said that all is set for the successful hosting of NAFEST 2014, which is 28th edition in its series.
NAFEST is an annual national cultural festival organized by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) for all the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
