Nigeria Women Premier League side, Naija Ratels and Ghana Police Ladies will go for each other’s jugular this afternoon in the opening match of the 2021 Flying Officer’s Cup at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10 in Abuja.

The pre-season football tournament sponsored by Barrister Paul Edeh’s Ratels Sports Foundation is featuring 16 clubs in Nigeria and neighbouring Ghana.

It is staged annually in honour of Late Flying Officer, Tolulope Oluwatoyin Arotile who died on July 14, 2020 in an accident at the Nigerian Air Force base in Kaduna.

Speaking ahead of today’s match, Naija Ratels Head Coach, Bankole Olowookeere, said they are not going to take anything for granted in their opening match.

 He said the Ghanaian ladies who finished as runners up in the 2021 Ghana Women Premier League, just behind WAFU ‘B Champions, Hasaacas Ladies deserve maximum respect.

“Every day, we get prepared for the challenges ahead of us and plan to get ourselves better as a team. 

“We respect our opponents. We know that they are a very good team. Nevertheless, we know our strength and have to make the best out of it. 

“We are trying to stay modest. Naija Ratels are not seen as one of the top teams, so there is less pressure on us,” said Olowookeere.
