The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS ), Zone A has once again called for a state of emergency to be declared in the education sector in Nigeria.
The association also urged the Federal Government to ensure strict compliance to the recommendation and increase of the 26% of annual budget allocation to educational sector as directed by UNESCO.
This was contained in a communiqué issued to Daily Trust by its management, on the congress’s 42nd Zonal convention held in Minna over the weekend.
The group also reaffirmed its support to FG’s fight against corruption stressing that government should show more “political will to ensure that perpetrators of these illegal acts are brought to book and their names published in national tabloids for Nigerians to see, know and to serve as deterrent to others”.
It also appreciated the leadership of Senate for passing the bill of not too young to run.
The congress during the convention inaugurated its newly elected members in to office with Umar Faruk of IBB University, Niger State emerging as the Coordinator, while Umar Faruk Musa Shakaka of Kano University of Science and Technology, as deputy coordinator amongst others.
Zone A of the association is “an apex body of National Association of Nigerian Student(NANS). It represents the northern part of Nigeria and it controlled by the coordinator of the zone. The zone comprises of 10 states including, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, Niger, Kebbi, Gombe, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Zamfara states.
