NANS convention: Kano-Jigawa chapter calls for investigation

Kano-Jigawa chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the leadership of the Student Union Government to investigate what it described as misconduct and fraud in the Zone A convention of the association.
A statement signed by comrade Said Usman Labaran alleged that rather than conducting election for its executive council at the convention held at the Federal College of Education in Katsina, the officials were merely selected. He said: “NANS constitution Article 24, section A stated that the election of the executive council shall be held at its annual convention but this was not done”.
The statement maintained that the Convention Planning Committee was formed a month before the convention whereas NANS constitution stated that it must be formed on the day of the convention in the presence of SUG President and senators who were eligible to vote.
“Those produced as new executives of the zone were merely selected not elected as required by our constitution. Based on this we hereby disagree with its outcome,” it said.
The aggrieved members called on the NANS to investigate the convention because the sharing of offices to candidates in respect of experience, contribution to the struggle, eligibility and competence were not followed.
