President of NANS Yinka Gbadebo who addressed newsmen in Abuja yesterday said NANS opposed strike action as ASUU’s only option in getting federal government to implement the MOU it signed in 2012.
Gbadebo advised the union to call off the strike and return to the consultation table while urging federal government to engage its members in a “one-off dialogue” in the interest of the education sector.
He accused ASUU of not consulting with NANS before embarking on strike even though it claimed it did so on behalf of staff and students.
The union president threatened that the union would later in future oppose some of the demands of ASUU that federal government had assented to such as the extension of retirement age of academics from 65 to 70 years.
