The National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora (NANS Diaspora) has condemned a recent request to the federal government to sustain the embargo placed on certificates obtained by Nigerian students from tertiary institutions in Togo and the Republic of Benin.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chris Juwon Fayomi, President of NANS Diaspora, urged the government to lift the embargo and not heed to the appeal.

The statement said: “This unauthorized appeal is not just a mere oversight—it is a direct affront to the principles of representation, transparency, and accountability that NANS Diaspora upholds.

“Such actions undermine the integrity of our association and jeopardize the credibility of our representation and should be ignored by well-meaning Nigerians as it’s baseless and not factual.”

NANS Diaspora demanded “unconditional retraction of the unauthorized appeal. The statement in question must be formally withdrawn, and a proper clarification issued to rectify the false impressions it has created.”

Fayomi added that Nigerian students in diaspora, particularly those in Benin and Togo, have long awaited the lifting of the suspension by the Ministry of Education.
