Speaking after the elections, Comrade Wali said students’ activism is central to democratic development, adding that students’ capacity must be improved to meet the current challenges.
He said: “Our mission in NANS is to initiate cross cultural and education exchanges between our students and others abroad. This would broaden their horizon as they become key players at global level.”
Wali said his administration will reactivate the parliamentary arm of the apex students’ body to play its crucial function of law making for the general well being of Nigerian students.
The secretary, in his speech, said that NANS and other students’ union bodies would be taken back to the campuses where they used to play the crucial role of fighting for students welfare related issues, social justice and entrenchment of good governance.
Comrade Wali said their tenure would focus on entrepreneurial development of students, “where soft loans would be provided to students and be paid after their graduation.”
According to him, this will go a long way in making our students self-reliant, adding: “We have to be part and parcel of the development process. We hold the ace for construction process of our country. This, we can only achieve when our students have improved capacity, relevant skills and determination. This is what we are out to make sure is done.”
He said the future of Nigeria, like any other developing nation, lied on the youth, especially students.
He added: “We want to be part and parcel of deciding our future. We would achieve that by revitalising NANS and other students’ bodies across the country.”
