NANS JCC Chairman Pledges Inclusive Leadership in Oyo, Seeks Stronger Student Representation

The newly elected Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Oyo State, Oloyede Okikiola Joshua, has pledged to promote inclusive leadership and strengthen student representation across the state.

In a statement issued following his emergence, Oloyede described his election as a collective achievement of student leaders and the wider student community.

“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every Students’ Union President across Oyo State, to every student leader, and to the entire student community who stood firm and believed in this vision,” he said.

He stated that his administration would focus on unity, inclusiveness, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the state government, to advance student welfare and academic development.

“We are fully committed to working hand in hand with the Oyo State Government to advance the welfare, academic prosperity, and general well-being of students across the state,” he added.

Oloyede also commended the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for initiatives supporting youth and education.

“His policies and interventions have continued to create an enabling environment for educational growth and youth development in the state,” he said.

While acknowledging these efforts, the NANS chairman noted that student leaders would continue to engage authorities on the need for further improvements.

“We will continue to engage constructively and advocate for enhanced support, improved policies, and expanded opportunities for students,” he said.

He also expressed concerns regarding the structure of student representation within the state, particularly the role of the Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, noting that there were differing views among stakeholders.

“While the intention of the role is understood, there are concerns within the student community about its impact on cohesion and representation,” he said.

Oloyede added that his leadership would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that student representation remains inclusive and reflective of the interests of the broader student body.

“We believe that student representation must remain independent, inclusive, and truly reflective of the will of the students,” he stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with student leaders and stakeholders to build a stronger and more unified student movement in Oyo State.
