The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has reiterated its call to President Bola Tinubu not to play kid gloves with incompetent personalities in his government.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja last Wednesday, after staging a peaceful protest at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), NANS President, Comrade Pedro Obi, expressed concerns about the competence of the Minister of State for Youth Development and the SSA to the President on Student Engagement.

Receiving the NANS on behalf of the SGF, Senator George Akume, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office in the OSGF, Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, had assured NANS of relaying back their complaints to the SGF.

In a statement on Wednesday, Pedro said: “In response to our previous protest to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), we wish to provide a follow-up statement regarding our ongoing ultimatum for the immediate dismissal of the Honourable Minister of State Youth and the Senior Special Assistant on Students Engagement.

“As our ultimatum enters its critical phase, with 7 days already elapsed and 14 days remaining, we reiterate our call to His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to take swift action and relieve the aforementioned officials of their duties.

“The incompetence displayed by these individuals in their respective roles is undeniable and capable of tarnishing the reputation of the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We urge President Tinubu to uphold the principles of accountability and excellence by promptly addressing our concerns and appointing capable individuals from the pool of competent young Nigerians who will effectively serve the interests of Nigerian youths and students.

“We remain steadfast in our resolve to hold accountable those entrusted with the responsibility of leading our nation towards a brighter future for all.”
