Stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun State have raised concerns over alleged interference in the forthcoming Joint Campus Committee (JCC) elections, warning against the misuse of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s name to influence the process.

In a statement signed by Comrade Adegunju Iyanda, the group accused the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, of actions capable of undermining the credibility of the election, declaring him persona non grata in student political activities.

The stakeholders said reports within the student community suggest attempts to improperly invoke the authority of the governor to sway outcomes and intimidate participants ahead of the polls.

They stressed that NANS, as an independent student body, must be allowed to operate based on democratic principles, transparency, and the collective will of students across campuses in the state.

According to the statement, dragging the governor’s office into student politics for personal or factional interests could create tension and disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.

“The independence of NANS JCC elections must be preserved at all costs. Student leadership remains a training ground for democratic engagement, and any form of external manipulation erodes trust in the system,” the group said.

The stakeholders called on Governor Abiodun to caution his aide against actions that could be perceived as interference, urging respect for the autonomy of the student body.

They also appealed to relevant authorities, including security agencies, to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, devoid of coercion or undue influence.

Reaffirming their support for the national leadership of NANS under Olusola Ladoja, the group pledged to resist any attempt to manipulate the process through lawful and democratic means.

They emphasized that protecting the integrity of the JCC elections is essential to sustaining the values of student unionism and democratic participation in Ogun State.
