NANS Zone ‘A’ convention: Officials dismiss aide involvement claims

Organizing committee of the concluded National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has on Tuesday dismissed claims made by the self-acclaimed winner of the convention Comrade Umar Faruk that aide to Jigawa state governor was involved in zone’s convention processes.

In a press statement issued to newsmen in Kano and jointly signed by the Convention Chairman NANS Zone ‘A’ Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu, Convention Clerk Comrade Aminu Saleh Tilde and the Chairman Communiqué Drafting Committee Comrade Yahaya Salisu respectively, the committee descibed the election victory claims as false.

 

According to the statement the committee’s attention was drawn to a publication in daily trust of 20th August 2017 indicting an aide to Jigawa State governor and also falsely claiming victory in the concluded convention held in Niger state by one Faruk.

 

“We found it imperative and necessary to put out a response to save the public from being misled by concocted stories. We believe, failure isn’t always a good thing to recon with,” the statement added.

 

The statement, further revealed that, the winner of the convention at the zone Usman Ayuba from Jigawa polytechnic won with 38 votes and he was declared as the winner of the convention

 

“For the avoidance of doubt and in order to set the record straight, the convention process began with the accreditation of senators who are the Students Union Government President of higher institutions of learning located within the 10 States of NANS Zone A, after the accreditation exercise 70 institutions were duly accredited and the outgoing Zonal Coordinator Usman Baba Kankia declared the convention open.

 

”Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu was unanimously elected to serve as the convention chairman, the convention chairman began the process of election with the office of Zonal coordinator in which Usman Ayuba got thirty eight 38 votes to defeat his closest rival who got 30 votes and 2 votes was recorded as invalid. And the convention chairman declared Usman Ayuba of Jigawa State Polytechnic as the winner of the election having scored the highest number of valid votes cast,” said the statement
