More than 220 delegates of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) travelled by rail to Ibadan for the association’s 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM), in a move that underscores growing confidence in the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
The delegates, led by NANTA President, Dr. Yinka Folami, boarded the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS), arriving in Ibadan for the Golden Jubilee event after what participants described as a smooth and well-coordinated journey.
Speaking during the trip, Folami expressed satisfaction with the service, describing the experience as efficient and comfortable. He commended the level of organisation and safety, noting that the seamless movement of passengers from departure to arrival reflects improvements in rail operations.
He said the experience highlights the viability of rail transport as a dependable option for organised group travel within the country.
Industry stakeholders say the decision by NANTA to adopt rail transport for a major milestone event is significant, given the association’s role in Nigeria’s travel and tourism sector.
They note that it reflects renewed confidence in rail as a practical alternative for conferences, tourism and corporate travel.
The development also aligns with efforts by the NRC to reposition rail as a key component of national transportation, offering a safer and more cost-effective alternative to road travel.
Participants said the journey provided an opportunity for interaction and networking, while also demonstrating the efficiency of the Lagos–Ibadan standard gauge corridor in connecting major urban centres.
Observers add that increasing patronage by professional bodies and organised groups points to a gradual shift towards rail as a preferred mode of transport for large-scale movements.
The successful conveyance of NANTA delegates comes as the association marks its Golden Jubilee in Ibadan, with rail transport playing a supporting role in the event’s logistics.
