Musa Daniel, a Public Relations expert, says Taraba state is positioning itself as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s energy sector under the visionary leadership of Engr. Naomi Tanko Agbu, Commissioner for Energy and Economic Development.

This is contained in a statement personally signed by Daniel and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

“With a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation, Agbu is spearheading transformative initiatives aimed at harnessing Taraba’s abundant resources to create a robust energy framework that empowers communities and drives economic progress,” he said.

He said one of the most pressing challenges for Taraba State has been energy access. A significant portion of the state, including five local government areas, remains disconnected from the national grid, hindering economic activities and quality of life.

Recognizing the urgency, he said Agbu has prioritized investments in renewable energy and rural electrification projects to bridge this gap.

“Under her leadership, Taraba recently enacted the Taraba State Electricity Law 2024, a groundbreaking legislation that empowers the state to establish its own Electricity Regulatory Commission. This law sets the stage for localized solutions to energy challenges, enabling the state to generate, distribute, and regulate its own power supply.

“Agbu has also been instrumental in attracting significant investments into Taraba’s energy sector. The state is currently pursuing a $1.5 billion funding initiative to stimulate economic growth, with a substantial portion earmarked for renewable energy projects. Collaborating with international financial institutions such as the African Development Bank, ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development, and Afreximbank, the Commissioner is leveraging these funds to develop sustainable energy solutions.

“The concession of the Kashimbila Dam stands as a testament to Agbu’s strategic approach. By converting this dam into a hub for renewable energy production, she has positioned Taraba as a leader in clean energy development in Nigeria. The project is expected to generate significant power output, providing electricity to underserved areas while contributing to the state’s environmental sustainability goals.

“Energy is not just a sector; it is the backbone of economic development. Naomi Agbu’s initiatives are designed to unlock the economic potential of Taraba State. By powering industries, enhancing agricultural productivity through electrification, and creating jobs in the energy sector, her strategies are fostering economic inclusion and reducing reliance on federal allocations.

Additionally, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are set to benefit from stable and affordable power supply, enabling them to scale their operations and contribute to the state’s GDP.”

The PR expert said as global conversations shift towards cleaner energy, Agbu is aligning Taraba State with international best practices. “Her focus on renewable energy sources, such as hydro, solar, and wind, not only addresses the state’s energy needs but also mitigates the environmental impact of traditional energy production.”

“The Kashimbila Dam project, alongside plans for solar farms and mini-grids in rural areas, underscores her dedication to renewable energy as a sustainable path forward.”

The statement added: “Naomi Agbu’s leadership in the energy sector reflects her commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. By addressing fundamental challenges and leveraging Taraba’s vast resources, she is setting a blueprint for energy transformation that other states in Nigeria can emulate.

“Through her work, Agbu is not only electrifying communities but also illuminating a path toward a prosperous and self-reliant Taraba State. With her strategic vision and relentless drive, the energy sector in Taraba is on the cusp of unprecedented growth, promising a brighter future for its people.

“Engr. Naomi Tanko Agbu is redefining what is possible in the energy sector. Her initiatives are more than just projects—they are transformative efforts that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. As Taraba State continues its journey toward energy sufficiency and economic independence, her leadership serves as a beacon of hope and progress.”
