Professor Gefu made this known during an interview with Daily Trust,saying that the institute is paying attention on rabbit because of its unique peculiarities, adding, “These are animals that assist the small farmers. For example, rabbits are very good source of money for small farmers in Nigeria. This is why we pay attention to these animals in order to give our farmers a mean of getting money. They are good source of meat for our people, as well.
“We have rabbits here. In the same vein, the federal government is encouraging us to pay attention to all domestic animals that would assist our farmers and improve their income. We have different breeds of rabbits where we are studying them to know the physiology and reproductive performance,” he said.
He said that the institute is giving priority to researches that would favour Nigerian farmers, as this, he said, would make farming become a business venture.
