NAPS, CIPM sign MoU to expand professional opportunities for polytechnic students

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) aimed at expanding professional development opportunities for polytechnic students across the country.

The agreement was signed at the CIPM head office in Lagos during a ceremony attended by officials of both organisations and other stakeholders.

The CIPM delegation was led by its Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Toyin Naiwo, while the NAPS delegation was headed by the President of the Senate of the association, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide.

Speaking after the signing, Ayomide described the partnership as a major step toward strengthening the professional capacity of polytechnic students and preparing them for the modern labour market.

According to him, the collaboration will provide students with greater exposure to workplace ethics, leadership principles and modern personnel management systems.

“This partnership represents a significant milestone for Polytechnic students nationwide,” he said.

“Through this collaboration, students will gain deeper exposure to workplace ethics, leadership principles, and modern personnel management systems that are essential for success in today’s professional environment.”

Ayomide said the initiative was originally conceived by a former National President of NAPS, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, whose efforts laid the foundation for the partnership.

“It is important to acknowledge that this laudable initiative was originally conceived by a distinguished leader of our Association and former National President of NAPS, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji,” he said.

“His foresight and commitment to the growth of Polytechnic students laid the groundwork for this partnership.”

He added that the proposal went through institutional consultations between both organisations before the agreement was finalised and signed.

The NAPS leader said the collaboration would also encourage students and graduates of polytechnics to pursue professional certifications and capacity-building programmes under the institute.

“By doing so, they will enhance their professional credibility, expand their career prospects, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and productivity of organizations across different sectors,” he said.

Ayomide noted that CIPM’s international affiliations would further open opportunities for Nigerian polytechnic students to obtain certifications recognised beyond the country.

“Through this relationship, Polytechnic students will have the opportunity to obtain professional certifications that are recognized not only within Nigeria but also internationally,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the partnership would help bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice.

“The leadership of NAPS strongly believes that this partnership will help bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice, ensuring that Polytechnic students graduate not only with technical knowledge but also with the professional competence required to thrive in modern workplaces,” he said.

Ayomide added that the association remains committed to pursuing collaborations that strengthen the career prospects of polytechnic students and position them as contributors to national development.
